Secretary General

Alexandre Chabot


Along with the Rector, the Secretary General is the only officer who reports to the Université de Montréal’s Board of Directors. He is a member of the management team.

He is responsible for the operation of university departments and a number of their committees, in addition to being the guardian of the university seal and the co-signatory of degrees. He exercises institutional responsibility under a number of laws; he is responsible for contract rules compliance, organizational information security, access to information and the protection of personal information, disclosures and wrongful acts reporting, and complaints regarding the award of public contracts.

The Secretary General is also responsible for the archives and the enforcement of disciplinary rules. 


A sociology graduate from the Université de Montréal, Alexandre Chabot was a member of the Université de Montréal Board of Directors from 1995 and 1998 and has been part of the management team since 1999.

He has served as Advisor for Government Affairs, Assistant Vice-President for Public Affairs and Development, Assistant Director of Government Affairs, nd Chief of Staff to the Rector and Assistant Vice-Rector. From 2007 to 2010, he was Assistant Vice-Rector for Student Services.

In that capacity, he was responsible for the CEPSUM, Student Services and Admissions and Recruitment, and coordinated university relations with the Government of Québec and the Ville de Montréal on a number of major issues, including opening the Université de Montréal Campus in Laval.
